| Name | : Myanmar (formerly Burma, the colonial name)
| | Land Area | : 676,522 square kilometre (261,218 sq miles) | | | About the size of Texas or (Great Britain and France combined) | | Borders | : Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand | | Population | : 52 million, 8 major races with Bamars as majority race. | | Literacy Rate | : 91 % adult literacy rate |
Rainforest | Pre-war | : 60 % of land was covered by natural forest | | Present | : 49 % (32,222,000 hectares) | | | Annual Loss 390,000 hectares (this differs from | | | official statistics) | In spite of this, while its neighbours China, India and Thailand have lost virtually all their original forest cover. Myanmar still holds half of the remaining forests in mainland Southeast Asia. Moreover, Myanmar's teak forest reserve is largest in the world. There has been significant depletion and degradation of rainforests in Myanmar during the last 2 decades threatening the environment as well as livelihood of the forest dependent poor. This has created millions of hectares of vacant land for reforestation in Myanmar. Thus is also a big potential for leasing the existing rainforests by international agencies for CO2 reduction. The fee can be used for the conservation and reforestation as well as for other areas such as education, health and poverty reduction
